The origins of this dessert are very distant, in fact it seems to have been born at the end of 1100, in the Palermitan convent of Martorana, annexed to the church of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio, which owes its name to Giorgio of Antioch, admiral of King Roger II. The "real" name attributed to the confectionery pastry can be traced back to the fact that it was "worthy of a king" for the goodness and characteristics of the dessert ( wiki ).
