Sicilian cannoli
The Sicilian cannolo is a traditional dessert that dates back to the Arab domination.
Mainstay of the "Sicilianity", initially reserved for Carnival, it spread throughout the region, changing in flavors but never in shape, to then be appreciated all over the world.
The reference of the name is linked to the river reeds around which the wafers were rolled and then fried.
Its simplicity makes it a versatile dessert full of surprises and today it is eaten in many ways, with pistachio cream , with lemon, with chopped hazelnuts or almonds , or simply with ricotta .
